A grey send arrow means sent

The email left your outbox and is waiting. Nothing to chase yet.

2

The eye appears as it's read

A faint eye for a likely open, full red once the read is confirmed. The marker deepens as attention builds.

Questions, answered

Is this the same as a double-check read receipt?

No, it's our own signal. Instead of one static glyph, the marker is a ramp: it changes state as engagement escalates and turns gold on a reply, so it tells you far more than a plain receipt.

Where does the marker appear?

Right in the Gmail row next to each tracked thread, and again in the side panel and dashboard. Wherever you look, the same ramp follows the message.

Can I see the detail behind a marker?

Hover any ping for the full open-and-click timeline: every timestamp, in order, without leaving your inbox.
