How tracking works

Using Fast Mail Tracker

Fast Mail Tracker turns every email you send into a signal you can read. This article explains what's happening under the hood, so you can trust what the ramp is telling you.

The signal ramp, stage by stage

  • Sent: a grey send arrow. The message left your outbox and is waiting.
  • Seen: a faint eye appears for a likely open, turning full red once the read is confirmed.
  • Clicked: a click cursor marks a recipient following a tracked link.
  • Replied: the marker turns gold, your cue that they wrote back.

Opens and clicks

An open is registered when your email is rendered by the recipient. A click is registered when they follow a tracked link, and it's tied to the specific URL, so you know not just that they engaged, but with what. Every event is timestamped and kept in the thread's history for you to revisit.

Why we filter robot opens

Many organizations run security scanners that open every inbound email automatically, before a human ever sees it. Counted naively, these robotic opens would inflate your numbers and fire alerts seconds after you send. Fast Mail Tracker separates automated scanner opens from genuine human engagement, so the signal you act on reflects real readers.

A number you can't trust is worse than no number at all, which is why we work to keep the ramp honest.

Your privacy and theirs

Tracking data is engagement information for your own follow-up, tied to your account. The recipient sees no banner or prompt; you see when your message landed. You can switch tracking off for any individual email whenever you'd rather send without it.
